Project Brief:
Re-Building Manual, DIY guide for re-configuring building waste materials into a flexible, modular system.

We can’t assume that our future buildings will be made “new” - and re-using existing C&D debris is just one way that we can start building within a circular economy of materials. The extra effort it takes to collect these materials, patch them up, and re-use them is well-aligned the DIY ethos.

We also can’t expect to be able to build everything all at once - depending on the type of tools, skills, space, and materials a do-it-yourself builder has, building with waste materials could take much longer, and have to happen in phases. The pace of the project depends on what types of tools, skills, space, and materials a do-it-yourself builder has–if they have power tools and lots of space to work, then progress can be made much faster than if they have amateur skills and small pieces of material.

These salvaged materials and offcuts have to be joined together, repaired, and re-standardized.
